Scam In NAFED
The year 2011 will be known in history of India as a year in which largest scams were brought into light and so called VIPs were sent behind the bars. By the end of this year indiancooperative.com published a news on 4th Nov.2011 in respect of recovery of Rs.4000 Crore scam in NAFED. This biggest apex cooperative organization is established to strengthen agriculture produce marketing cooperative organizations. Simply we may understand that directly or indirectly, NAFED is meant to provide benefit to farmers who cover nearly 65% population of our country. This is very shameful that such people are elected or appointed on the top positions from where they materialize there wrongful motives. The responsibility lies with whom? with electoral body or system or policies of the government? I say, lackness of monitoring during elections. The right to hold election under Multistate Cooperative Societies Act 2002 is given to the organization to maintain autonomy of it. But department monitors it. The system is proper. There is no need to change it but it is required to monitor the things in proper way. The Secretary and Registrar both should be appreciated for the action they took for recovery. CBI investigation is also going on.
India is a country where farmers suicide in a large number. NAFED could play a vital role to solve the problems of Indian farmers. There are shortage of werehouses in rural area. Farmers, in large, are incapable to hold there agriculture produce due to shortage of funds and covered area to place it. NAFED could help Primary Agriculture Cooperative Credit Societies (PACS) and Large Scale Multipurpose Cooperative Societies(LAMPS) to build werehouses by which threre member farmers could be served. NAFED is failed in procurement of paddy and wheat crops not due to shortage of funds but due to lackness of will to uplift farmer̢۪s economic status. Honest person with a zeal to serve the nation should be elected or appointed for such posts. This should be monitored by the government as well as electorate.
