(SCHEDULED APEX BANK)
The Gujarat State Coop. Bank Ltd. came into existence and started banking business from 10th May, 1960 with the establishment of Gujarat State on 1st May, 1960.
The Gujarat State Coop. Bank Ltd. is functioning as the Apex Bank for three tier coop. credit structure, where 18 District Central Coop. Banks (DCCBs) associated with this bank with its 1144 branches are at the middle tier and 8103 Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS) at lower tier, provides the crop loans to the 25.36 lacs farmers members out of 38.37 lacs total farmer members of PACS.
The bank is contributing to the well being of our Agriculture economy. The bank will continue its efforts to promote agricultural and allied activities in the state, so that the goal of socio-economic upliftment of the farmers and common people at large can be achieved.
Before our new Board has taken charge of the bank, only 6 DCCBs out of 18 DCCBs were providing agriculture crop loan @ 7% to farmers. With a view providing concessional ROI agriculture finance to all 18 DCCBs of the state. Our bank requested the Govt. of Gujarat to provide 2% interest subvention on own involvement of DCCBs for financing SAO for the year 2009-10. On request of SCBs, State Govt. agreed to provide 2% interest subvention as per Central Govt. Scheme for 2009-10. Hence, all 18 DCCBs are now financing crop loan @ 7% to farmers through PACS.
The amount of deposit has been remarkably increased by Rs.1230/- crores, within 9 months of new management. This reflects the trust and confidence of the customers and members in the bank.
The bank is planning to arrange ‘Khedut Shibir’, ‘Seminar’, ‘Krushi Exhibition’ for educating farmers of the state and planning to show the new techniques and advanced technology to enhance the income of farmers as a part of celebration of Golden Jubilee during the current year.
The bank has also planned to strengthen the coop. sector by bringing all Dist. Coop. Banks and Urban Coop. Banks of the state under one umbrella.
The bank has prepared set of common documents and common charges for all coop. banks with a view to provide strong legal protection.
