Since the implementation of the rural cooperative medical care system, authorities have constantly intensified their efforts in medical care and increased subsidies year by year in Tibet Autonomous Region, greatly benefiting rural Tibetans.

The rural cooperative medical care system lightens rural Tibetans' burden of getting medical care and meets their need of treating common diseases.

They are able to get medical treatment for minor illnesses within the village, major illness within the county, and serious illness within the prefecture.

The government-sponsored system is based on free medical treatment. Villagers can join it out of their own will. In the system, the expenses of serious diseases can get comprehensive arrangement and receive medical rescue.
