National Awareness Programme of PACS Members

A National Awareness Programme of PACS Members was started by National Cooperative Education Trust (NCET) on 28th April 2010 at Barthara Kalan Village of Varanasi District in Uttar Pradesh. Around two hundred Villagers participated in the programme including gram pradhans, panchayat Sadasya and local PACS members. Managing Trustee of NCET Shri Dhananjay Kumar Singh informed the members that after Vaidyanathan Committee recommendations U.P. Government included some changes in its U.P. Cooperative Societies Act. According to it landless persons can also become member of the PACS. He reiterated that Sadhan Sahakari Samiti Barthara Kalan (Local PACS) covers 8 Villages which population is nearly 7500. If this PACS provide membership to 5000 members and receives a thrift amount of Rs.100/- per month, one month’s collection will be Rs.5,00,000/- (Rupees five lacs) and in one year it will became Rs.60,00,000/- (Rupees sixty lacs) which is a huge amount and can start any type of small scale agrobased industry. This will generate employment to local youth with effect to stop plight of them to metropolitan cities. Apart from it a number of examples of cooperative societies viz. Mulkanoor Primary Cooperative Marketing Societiy, Lizzat Papad, Amul etc. were given. The economic growth of rural area in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala etc. through cooperative movement is example which can be followed in backward states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Orissa, Jharkhand etc.

In this awareness programme a written request was made to various state govt. departments viz. – Agriculture, Horticulture, Environment, Forest and Union Bank to participate and make aware activities of their departments before starting kharif season to the farmers gathered by efforts of NCET but only Horticulture department send Shri Hira Lal Patel, Senior Technical Assistant (insects). Shri Patel provided detail information of bee farming in villages and told that in this bee farming business a unit costs around Rs.6700/-which is doubled within one season. People appreciated his guidance and some of them were mentally prepared to proceed. Gram Pradhan Shri Harishchandra thanked to all guests and participants.
